STARE MESTO
If you're looking for the center of town, this is it. The Old Town is situated around Staromestske namesti, the Old Town Square (home to Prague's famous Astronomical Clock). Most tourists spend the bulk of their time in Stare Mesto, meandering through the winding narrow streets, enjoying the area's many shops, bars, and restaurants. Josefov, the city's former Jewish neighborhood, is also located inside Stare Mesto.
MALA STRANA/HRADCANY
Across the Charles Bridge from Stare Mesto, this hilly, romantic area is slightly less crowded with tourists than its neighbor, despite its big draw, the Prague Castle. The winding, steep streets of Mala Strana are popular with dreamy-eyed lovers and photo students, and, not surprisingly, hotels tend to be quite pricey.
NOVE MESTO
Located South of Stare Mesto, the city's "new town" is still ancient by most standards. Picturesque streets mix with larger traffic thoroughfares, and a reliable and inexpensive public transit system makes sleeping here a good choice for travelers on a budget. In fact, most spots in Nove Mesto are less than twenty minutes away from Old Town Square, using the subway or bus.
