How do these stars work?
We know, it can be confusing trying to understand this whole star-system thing. Star ratings change for each country -- and stars signify one thing in one country and a different thing in another.
In Italy, star ratings are determined by government inspectors who visit hotels every year. Points are awarded to hotels for different amenities. The more amenities (hairdryer, bathtub, cable TV, minibar, etc.), the higher the star rating.
It's important to keep in mind that four-star hotels can be devoid of charm, while a one-star hotel can turn out to be your favorite hotel in Italy. Stars alone can't rate hotels...only people can.
